Always difficult to talk about 'the construction of the visual image' (to quote Braque) without erring on the pretentious; but the following may be of interest to a few:
The provenance of these works lies in Tantric Art ( and this definition includes the paintings of Mark Rothko ) where the meditative process is an essential part of the end product.
This is why attempting to paint 'The All' (Tantra) has to begin with the artist's own commitment to a holistic approach on every level of his/her life if the imprinting of the soul (which is what I consider I am doing)
occurs in as pure a form as possible. I am fortunate, at 71 years of age, to have the time to set aside most of the morning for meditation as a preliminary to actually taking brush to canvas.
These works, much like Haiku poetry, are very simple in narrative content while being very complex (profound) on the conceptual level and concentrating above all on the lyrical content.
