North Taranaki Community Arts Council

DO YOU NEED OUR HELP?

The North Taranaki Community Arts Council supports creative expression and participation in the arts within the community, meeting once a month to consider grant applications.

Projects or activities supported may involve any art forms or mixture of art forms, including: dance, visual arts, sculpture, theatre, music, crafts, literature, recreational or traditional arts, to name but a few.

As long as the project or activity benefits your community through encouraging participation and interest in the arts, you may qualify for assistance with funding.

At the very least, we can offer advice!

Guidelines on Making Funding Applications to the
North Taranaki Community Arts Council

Please note that if the project for which you have received funding does not take place by the date specified, the full amount must be refunded within fourteen days of that date.

1.     Plan your project well in advance of its proposed happening.
2.     Note deadline for receipt of your application for the next meeting. More information may be required or adjustments needed. The dates of meetings are given above.

3.     Only in exceptional circumstances of high priority activities will grants be provided for the total cost of a project.

4.     Priorities are:
  • projects that increase active participation
  • projects that increase interest in the arts, especially for groups whose participation in or access to the arts is restricted by their circumstances
  • activities which introduce people to new art forms and experience (such as growth and development of Maori arts and culture)

5.     The activity must take place within the district where the application is being made.

6.     Hastily prepared, poorly presented and incomplete applications do not deserve to succeed and probably won't.

7.     A complete budget is required including income and expenditure; it is not enough to provide an expenditure budget only.

8.     Check with the community Arts Council in advance if you are unsure whether your application will meet the criteria, or if you don't understand certain items.

9.     Many funding schemes are highly competitive; don't be despondent if your application is rejected. It may have competed with others equally worthy for limited funds. Try again.

10.   Often individuals may not be able to obtain funding but a group may be eligible. Think of the benefits of working together with others towards an objective.

11.   Retrospective applications will not be considered - that is, applications for projects which have already started or finished.

12.   Note that if you apply for a Guarantee Against Loss rather than a grant, you must claim the GAL no later than one month after the project is completed, and no less than one month before the next six-monthly funding round. (The two funding rounds are in May and October). The maximum allowable for a GAL is $500.00

13.   The NTCAC can only supply grants up to $500.00; for grants of $500 to $5000, apply to the Creative communities Scheme Administrator at the New Plymouth District Council, who will supply dates and appropriate information/application forms for the next funding round.

14.   For grants above $5000, Creative New Zealand programme staff will provide assistance and advice. The address is: Creative New Zealand, P O Box 3806, Wellington. Telephone: (04) 473 0880 Fax: (04) 471 2865
15.   Please note that we may wish to use details of your application to promote the work of the NTCAC. Tell us if you do not want to give permission for this.
